The Heritage Classic Foundation initiated the Scholar Program in 1993 when seven graduating seniors from Beaufort County High Schools were named Heritage Classic Foundation Scholars. Along with this honor they became eligible to receive four-year scholarship grants for their continuing education.

In 2007, fifteen new Scholars were named which increased the total number of Scholars since 1993 to 151. Through the years the four year award opportunity has increased from a range of $18,000 to $22,000. The total amount of funds granted since 1993 has now reached $1.5 million.

This past year the Scholar Program received special contributions from the Hilton Head Island Golf Professionals Association and Palmetto Electric Cooperative. The Scholar Program is administered by a committee of Foundation trustees.
